Replica plaster cast of the face of Taupua Te Whanoa, a Maori chief of Ngāti Whakaue, from Rotorua in the North Island, showing his full moko (facial tattoos). Created and painted from life with the sitter's eyes closed. Made by Major General Robley in 1854 and taken by order of Sir George Grey (New Zealand Governor). 'Robley' (the artist & vendor) is written on the back.
