Dress

Dress, pink net full skirt with underskirts. Camisole top with net bodice, long net sleeves. The dress fabric (layers working outwards) consists of stiffened cream lining, a second skirt (and the camisole) made from pink taffeta, a 3rd layer made from pink net and the outer layer (4th) also made of pink netting with a floral design. There are gauze trimmings for the skirt, collar and shoulders and a 5 rose cluster trimming used for decoration. The stiffened cream underskirt is stiffened and full. It consists of 3 panels (1 at the front and two at the back, held together at the centre back seam). The Pink taffeta (2nd skirt layer) is also very full and made from 6 pieces of material. The 3rd layer of the skirt (pink plain net) is made from one piece of material and the final skirt, (top lace layer) is made from 8 pieces. This is also very full. They are all fitted at the waist. There is a trimming band of gauze (5 pieces) around the skirt, rising in a curve at the front (left hand side) of the dress. At the pinnacle of this curve is a cluster of 5 pink roses made of the same material along with green leaves and stems made from (rusty) wire. The bodice has a taffeta camisole, with net straps under the lace net bodice. The long net sleeves are pointed at the wrists and fastened with two press studs. There are 2 darts from waist to bust at the front of the piece and 2 darts from the waist at the back. There is an extra section of material inserted under each arm. The sleeves are fitted. The camisole itself has boning into pointed cups at the front and diagonal boning across the low cut back. There is a plastic zip (350mm in length), centre back a hook and eye clasp above it. There is a roll collar of gauze which forms a wide scoop across the front - almost shoulder to shoulder in width. The gauze then follows the arm-hole seam towards the back of the dress and ends at the side seams (at the back). It has a 'V' neck back and full chest coverage (from the net not the bodice) at the front. Dress is in good condition, though has slight rust (from the wire stems on the flowers) and is pretty dirty from wear and age. Mid to late 1950's. There is some writing on the inside (handwritten) though it is difficult to read - Might say ERIN OR ERDINI. Note attached to dress 'Karen & Shoes'. Possibly a fashion shoes dress or a bridesmaid outfit? Probably home made from a pattern. Karen might be Karen Walton
