Part of a breakfast/supper set. Oval bowl with two moulded squared handles, on oval pedestal foot; inside lip to take flat piece pierced with oval between four rounds (for eggs) and cover with convex sides and domed centre surmounted by moulded squared handle.
Underglaze-blue-transfer-printed, 'Bridge of Lucano' pattern: on both sides of body, on cover and pierced section, landscape with round tower and columns above humped bridge with four pointed arches of uneven height; man driving cattle across bridge, 2 cows in foreground; hills, 2 houses, barrack building in left background, trees at both ends of bridge, tufts of plants; three large birds to left of tower, seven small to right. Border of vine leaves & grapes, barley, and berried branch around edge of cover and foot of dish; narrow version on inside lip; similar print on handles.
Egg cups missing. N5143 probably beongs to this.
