The Battle of the Saints, with the 'Barfleur' (drawing/watercolour)
a framed ink and pencil drawing on paper, showing: three ships; the British 'Barfleur' is seen on the right, and is about to fire a broadside against the French flagship, 'Ville de Paris' in the centre, in a famous battle which took place in 1782 off Dominica; two of the ship drawings are preparatory sketches for an oil painting, 'The Close of the Battle of the Saints' (see K4965); the painting is an unusual collaboration between the shipbuilder, Hilhouse, and the marine artist, Nicholas Pocock
