mummified remains (adult, male) (human remains)
Adult male mummified body. No coffin. It is in a zinc lined crate, possibly the one used to transport it by ship from Egypt. Some of the outer bandages have been removed in the past, revealing the wrapped upper limbs. The arms are crossed on the chest, with the hands resting on the shoulders. The limbs are bandaged individually and each finger of the hand is wrapped (so is a more expensive burial than some in the collection). The outer bandages are coated with resin or a similar compound. A gilded cartonnage mask covers the face and sections of openwork cartonnage the body. The cartonnage footpiece is damaged. The mummified body has a blue faience necklace at the neck.
