outer coffin (coffin)

A rectangular wooden box, black on the outside and white on the inside. The outside has a painted decoration, of registers of gods and prayers. One side is darkened (by soot?) and the decoration is only faintly visible as lines. Isis and Nephthys at each end. Dark stain around the top edge may be a woodworm treatment: the wood is badly damaged by worm, with a (modern) repair in one corner using linen. The floor is made of planks of wood. Traces of salting inside the base.
