Woman and Pig (painting)

'Woman and Pig'
showing a Highland woman with a pig and two billums/net bags. Inscription in Neo-Melanesian explains the image: 'Dispela meri pik bilong em sik na karim marsin em igo long em sik, gipim, na kam bek'; 'this woman, her pig was sick and she took it to the hospital and gave medicine and came back.'
This is a very early painting by the artist and he knew the woman. The simple flower is an early version of a recurring motif.
